The day Rowan left this temporary place and joined the Lord.
He was 6 years old.
Rowan was tragically taken from us by his biological father. This act — known as filicide — is way more common than you might think. On average, over 450 children are killed by a parent annually. One is too many; 450 is abysmal!
Rowan’s circumstances and story need to be told and addressed. Laws, perceptions and actions need to change. This is the inspiration behind THE ROWAN PROJECT.
The Rowan Project is a pioneering 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about filicide in the United States. As an organization fully dedicated to this cause, our primary goal is to provide education, support, and advocacy for families and communities affected by this tragic issue.
We all need to fight to stop filicide from occurring. We need to AMEND THE SYSTEM. SAVE CHILDREN.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Rowan Project Statement on the Grand Haven Township Tragedy
The Rowan Project is heartbroken by the devastating loss of eight lives, including six innocent children, in Grand Haven Township.
As a Michigan organization founded after the murder of our own six-year-old son, Rowan, our hearts ache alongside every loved one, first responder, investigator, teacher, neighbor, and community member now facing the unimaginable.
No family should ever experience this kind of tragedy. No child should become another headline.
While investigators continue their work to determine exactly what happened, we ask the public to allow law enforcement the time and space needed to uncover the truth while surrounding this family with compassion, dignity, and prayer.
Just days after Michigan made history by passing Rowan’s Act to strengthen protections for endangered children, our state is once again grieving the loss of young lives. This tragedy is a painful reminder that protecting children requires constant vigilance, collaboration, and a commitment to recognizing risk before violence escalates.
The Rowan Project remains committed to working alongside survivors, law enforcement, legislators, prosecutors, child advocates, and communities across the country to strengthen prevention efforts, improve systems, and ensure families have somewhere to turn before tragedy strikes.
Today is not about legislation.
Today is about a family.
Today is about six children whose lives mattered.
We mourn with Grand Haven. We pray for every first responder and every loved one whose lives have been forever changed.
In memory of these children—and every child we’ve lost—we recommit ourselves to doing everything in our power to prevent another family from experiencing this unimaginable pain.
